Westall High School UFO Incident 1966

The Westall UFO encounter is an event that occurred on 6 April 1966 in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia. Around 11.00 am, for about 20 minutes, more than 200 students and teachers at two Victorian state schools witnessed some unexplained flying object(s) which they said descended into a nearby open field. The paddock was adjacent to a grove of pine trees in an area known as The Grange (now a nature reserve). According to reports, the object(s) then ascended quickly in a north-westerly direction over the suburb of Clayton South, Victoria, Australia.

Description of the Event

At approximately 11.00 am on Wednesday, 6 April 1966, a class of students and a teacher from Westall High School (now Westall Secondary College) were outside on the main oval when an object, described as being a grey saucer shaped craft with a slight purple hue and being about twice the size of a family car, but very round, was seen. Andrew Greenwood, a science teacher at the high school, told The Dandenong Journal at the time that he saw a silvery-green disc.

There were reports from some witnesses that the largest craft flew over and along some large Electricity Pylons near the school before landing. It was further reported that there were two other smaller craft of similar design that had hovered over ( but not landed on and only hovered above ) the dirt roadway at the front of the school. Further reports suggest that the larger main craft that landed in the paddock may have had some sort of problems and that the two smaller craft were there to assist it.

According to witnesses the objects were descending and then crossed and overflew the high school's south-west corner, going in a south-easterly direction, before disappearing from sight as it descended behind a stand of trees and into a paddock at The Grange in front of the Westall State School (primary students). The main and biggest object had landed on the ground. After a short period (approximately 20 minutes) the object - with witnesses now numbering over 210 - then rose and climbed at speed and departed towards the north-west.

None of the witnesses said that they saw any aliens or any people in or around any of the craft. It was suggested that if there were in fact any (people) they would not have been able to stand up as the height of the craft was no higher than an average family car, the craft being round and large at the base but lacking in height. Like the saucer of an upside down tea cup.

Local Media Coverage

The Dandenong Journal covered the encounter in detail and ran two front page stories (see image below)

The first was on 14 April. and the next was on 21 April.

A number of small aeroplanes circled around it. However, a check later showed that no commercial, private or RAAF ( royal australian air force ) pilots had reported anything unusual in the area.

GTV Channel 9 television also ran a news report about the encounter. A student, Joy Tighe, described the event for the reporter. However, a copy of this tape is not available. Channel 9 reports that it was removed from their archive and not returned.

One of the students, a girl, ran towards the craft that had landed and reached it before the other students had arrived. She was found in a collapsed and dazed state. An ambulance was called and she was taken away to hospital.
This girl was one of the leading athletes in the school and could outrun almost all the others, being very fit. Apart from that no one else was hurt in the incident. Some of the students had rung up the local newspapers and TV stations and they had sent reporters to the school. These media groups had rung the police and in turn the police had rung the local RAAF military base.
Soon all were involved in the incident.

After the Incident.

A full school assembly was held that afternoon at Westall High School.

The headmaster, with about three men in dark suits beside him, who no one from the school had seen before, made an announcement that “nothing had happened”. The students and staff were told to “keep your mouths shut”. The Headmaster further told the staff and students that “there are no such things as flying saucers” ( actual quote )

Andrew Greenwood, the science teacher whose picture appeared in the local newspaper with the story was visited a few days later at home by two people who announced themselves as from the RAAF.

(The royal australian air force - the Australian Government.)
They told him if he made any more public statements they would "leak out" that he had a “drinking problem” and that would mean the end of his career as a teacher.

The student who was taken to hospital never returned to Westall High school. Her family moved out of the family home that night, never to return. When one of her very good friends called around to her house, which was very close to the school, a middle aged woman answered the door, someone she had not seen before, and told her “she does not live here” and that she “must have the wrong house”.

Just after the incident two truckloads of military people arrived at the field where the craft landed, sealed off the area, and walked over it with what looked like metal detectors. Anyone who got too close were told to “leave immediately or else”.
They took measurements of the circle and indentations made by the craft in the ground and when they finished they burnt the grass so no circle remained shown. After that they left.

Shane Ryan has since 2005 begun investigations into this incident and uncovered much truth,

Shane Ryan, an English lecturer at the University of Canberra, is interviewing dozens of witnesses for a book he hopes to publish on the 40th anniversary of the sighting.

Mr Ryan, 38, was alerted to the events in the 1980s by a housemate who was there. Unlike most UFO sightings, the Westall objects had a large number of credible witnesses. It was viewed in broad daylight by over 200 people and attracted a forceful response from police and the government who used all sorts of threats to cover this up. People were told everything from "you did not see anything" to "we will cripple you if you say anything" and now in 2011 the officials are saying "nothing at all happened people - what are you on about". AND most of the records of the event are now "lost" or were "never there"

Mr Ryan has interviewed about 30 witnesses, mostly former staff and students from the Westall secondary and primary schools. He has tried obtaining police and RAAF reports, but so far with little luck. The story was covered then by Channel Nine, The Age and local newspapers.

On the UFO, everyone seems to agree, Mr Ryan says. It was a low-flying, silver/grey shining object, either of classical flying saucer shape or close to it, "a cup turned upside down on a saucer". The students were familiar with light aircraft because the schools were close to Moorabbin Airport. Although the UFO was of similar size, "everyone said straight away that they knew it was not a plane", Mr Ryan said, nor a weather balloon.

The object was in view for up to 20 minutes, and many saw it descend.

The Dandenong Journal, for which the story was front-page news two weeks in a row, reported that "students and staff have been instructed to 'talk to no-one' about the incident". Nevertheless, one teacher, Andrew Greenwood, gave the paper a detailed account.

"It was silvery-grey and seemed to thicken at times," he said. "The thickening was similar to when a disc is turned a little to show the underside."

One of the closest witnesses was a boy whose family leased land at Grange Reserve for horses.

Shaun Matthews (not a student at Westall) was on holidays and spending time on the land.

"I saw the thing come across the horizon and drop down behind the pine trees," he told The Sunday Age this week. "I couldn't tell you what it was. It certainly wasn't a light aircraft or anything of the like …

"I saw the thing drop down behind the pine trees and saw it leave again. I couldn't tell you how long it was there for, it was such a long time ago."

Mr Matthews, 51 and now living in Greenvale, said the object "went up and off very very rapidly".

"I went over and there was a circle in the clearing. It looked like it had been cooked or boiled, not burnt as I remember," he said. "A heap of kids from Westall primary and high school came charging through to see what had happened — 'look at this, look at that, we saw it as well', that sort of thing. It was a bit of a talking point for a couple of days."

Mr Matthews said the object, about the size of "two family cars", passed him at a distance of about "four football fields". "It was silvery, but it had a sort-of purple hue to it, very bright, but not bright enough that you couldn't look at it," he said.

"I saw that it dropped down behind the trees, and I thought, 'hello, hang on'. A minute or so later, it went straight up, just gone."

He said police and other officials interviewed his mother.
"It didn't just sort of cruise and then slightly descend at an angle. It just stopped, dropped, and then went straight up."

The Victorian UFO Research Society investigated the incident. VUFORS secretary Tony Cook said Westall remained one of Australia's major unexplained UFO cases.

The top one was the case of Frederick Valentich, a 20-year-old Melbourne pilot whose light plane disappeared while flying over Bass Strait in 1978.

In the last minutes of radio communication, Valentich reported seeing a UFO hovering above his plane. He and his craft were never recovered.

As well, "if there was a whole lot of officials investigating it, there must be an official report in RAAF archives somewhere".

But Mr Ryan said that no one at the RAAF knew of the incident.

But given the history of the case — the way students and staff were told to keep quiet from the start — that was not surprising, he said.

"As I got a little bit older, I got a little more interested in the social and historical aspects of the story, how something like this could have happened and how it reflected society at the time, and how authorities responded to it," he said.

" There's been a layer of secrecy that was very, very prominent in this story from the very beginning."

Shane Ryan has a Facebook page and Yahoo chat page about the incident. In addition there is a website about the Westall66UFO incident and a short documentary has been made. Shane is able to be contacted on the address below and is keen to hear from people who were there on the day it happened or who know someone who was.

Stowell Primary School UFO Incident in Bukit Mertajam 1970

In August 1970, before the first of human achievements listed on space.com, the Straits Times published a drawing of an alien in a spacesuit as frontpage headline news! Imagine that! The Singapore national newspaper!

Here's the evidence....since the words of the articles are so tiny, I shall transcribe them for you so you don't have to scratch your eyeballs out! Now, take a deep breath...

THE STRAITS TIMES August 21, 1970

Heading :Crowds rush to 'flying saucer' school

Text from page 1 Penang, Thurs - The "little men" are here again - if you are to believe six Bukit Mertajam schoolboys. The boys, all students of Stowell English Primary School, claimed that a soup-plate sized flying saucer landed near them as they were playing "cops and robbers" in the bush beside the school yesterday evening. One boy claimed that he was even shot at by one of the five "horrible looking" three-inch space Lilliputians, using a miniscule space gun.

FIRST REPORT

Whether it was mass hallucination or overwrought imagination of the boys - the tale has gripped the whole Bukit Mertajam district in Central Province Wellesley with flying saucer fever. By tonight, hundreds of people were converging on the school, which was forced to shut its gates. This is the first report of a Malaysian "landing" of a flying saucer since a similar story of "little men" being found near a Johore Bahru school last year. The six boys who reported their unearthly brush wiith the tiny spacemen were : Mohamad Zulkini, 11; Abdul Rahim, 10; David Tan, 9, Sulaiman, 10; Vikneswaran, 10, and Mohamed Ali, 8.

'HORRIBLE' "

We went back to the scene at about 630 this morning and found the saucer still there, surrounded by the spacemen" said Zulkifi today. "They were only about three inches high but they looked horrible," he added. Another boy, Mohamed Ali, told the headmaster, Mr. Ooi Keat Guan, that one of the spacement took...

Heading :SPACEMEN SHOT AT ME, CLAIMS BOY...out what looked like a little gun and took at shot at him. "It struck me on my hand, but didn't hurt very much. All I felt was a little pain." Mr Ooi promptly proceeded to the scene with another teacher but fond no trace of a space ship or the aliens. "To our amazement five little men put out a gangway and alighted from the saucer," he said. "One of them obviously the leader was dressed in a yellow suit. The other four wore blue uniforms. We then saw them installing an aerial on a tree branch and send out signals. "We got scared and ran away."

'IMAGINATION'

Early this morning, some of the boys went back adn saw the flying saucer still there. "It had been moved a few yards but the spacemen were guarding it," they said. At 11 a.m. today, Sulaiman abd Vickneswaran returned to the spot during the school recess but the flying saucer had disappeared. They however saw the aerial still hanging over the tree branch. Mr Ooi said tonight that he had questioned the boys and he felt the whole thing was a figment of their imagination.

THE STRAITS TIMES August 22 ,1970
By Gunn Chit Chye and J. R. Miniandy : Bukie Mertajam, Friday...

[Alien Drawing] -PSST, DON'T LOOK NOW, BUT THAT'S ONE OF THOSE LITTLE MEN FROM SPACE TO YOUR LEFT... THIS picture of the little spaceman with two horns was drawn "from memory" by schoolboy Wigneswaran.

[Alien Drawing] - Another drawing - this time of a "hornless" spaceman - by Wigneswaran

[Spaceship drawing] - The little "spaceship". Note the two ladders.

Sub Heading : 39 spaceships, 31 spacemen, so where are the other 8 little men?

Text from page 1

ABOUT the only thing they have in common is their height - all three inches of it, and the fact that most are armed: Some wear yellow, some blue, and some can vanish in a flash. At least two have only one arm and one even sports a pair of horns. They are the invaders from Outer Space who seem bent on swamping on this sleepy town by sheer force of numbers. The score at lunch today was 39 spaceships and 31 spacemen. Which means that at least eight spacemen are still wandering around somewhere. The invaders have all been sighted by boys from Stowell School. In blukar nearby. It was a 10-year old, K Wigneswaran, who spotted the one sporting the horns as he emerged from his spaceship yesterday.

LEADER

He must have been the leader as he was wearing a yellow uniform while his four companions each with his own ship sported a more mundane shade of blue. They're pretty fierce when aroused too. The five armed with miniature space blasters and the one with horns loosed off at Wigneswaran when the youngster tried to capture him. The result? A small red dot on Wigneswaran's right leg he is proudly...

PAGE 2 Sub heading :'Spaceman' with one arm...

[Photo of boy pointing down] : Mohamed Arriffin pointing where he saw two "spacemen".

...showing his chums as a battle scar today. Unlike true Outer Space tradition, he fainted after the extra-terrestrial attack and woke up in a classroom. He had been discovered where he fell among the blukar outside the school perimeter fence and carried there by prefects. It was Wigneswaran who reported seeing 25 tiny men stepping out of a similar number of space ships at the same spot on Wednesday. But once more, Fate was against him. Just as he rushed forward for a better look, the school bell rang-and like all good schoolboys, Wigneswaran went back to class.

PICTURES

However, he has managed to draw two pictures of the aliens and their ships from memory. But not all resort to voilence when threatened with capture. Take the case of T. Veerasingham, another 10-year old and his pal, A. Devaraj, 12. After classes yesterday, they went to a spot in the blukar where there were reports of a tiny space ship landing on Wednesday. Sure enough, they saw two miniature figures, one perched on a branch, the other taking it easy on a rock on the ground. When the boys tried to gain immortality as the first pair ever to capture a spaceman, the little men simply vanished. The boys are prepared to swear in a temple that they are telling the truth. Veerasingham, who tried to capture the one on the branch said "He was about three inches high and the branch was about three feet from the ground. "He, too, was wearing a yellow suit and had only one arm - his left. I am very definite I saw him. "He was sitting on the branch shaking his head from side to side clasping what looked like a tiny gun". Another casualty of the invasion is Mohamed Ariffin bin Mokhtar, seven, an afternoon pupil at the school whose father is a police corporal.

SPACEMEN

Cpl. Mohktar bin Haki Talib said :"When he returned home at 6.30 last night, he told my wife and me he had seen two tiny spacemen among the blukar outside the perimeter fence. "When he tried to catch them, one shot him. He had a small cut on his left hand and my wife treated the wound." Six pupils of the school reported they first saw the tiny spacemen on Wednesday evening. Five aliens, they claimed, landed from a blue flying saucer. The headmaster of Stowell School, Mr Ooi Keat Guan, said he had questioned them carefully and they all insisted that their stories were true. Mr. Ooi said he brought two of the pupils, Mohamed Shukri and Abdul Rahim, to the scene again this morning, and they still maintained that they had not been imaging things.

CROWDS

"I don't know what to think", Mr Ooi said pensively. "Frankly, I don't believe them. They might have seen some leaves or insects moving and mistaken them for tiny spacemen." When the news spread yesterday, thousands of curious onlookers flocked to blukar outside the school compound to examine the spot where the tiny spaceship were reported to have landed. CID officers also called at the school this morning to question the boys. There was such big crowds outside the school today that the main gate was closed to prevent outsiders from getting into the compound.

Alien or Jinn ?

Some say alien ...because of the space suit ...others say jinn ..spirits ..because they seem to appear and disappear ...but one thing for sure ...they are often seen in our beloved Malaysia ..

This midget alien ...was reported seen in the Stowell Primary School UFO incident in Bukit Mertajam in 1970 ...by six school children ...

Ariel School UFO Incident

On the morning of September 16, 1994, teachers and school officials at the Ariel School in Ruwa, Zimbabwe were amazed when the school's students, aged approximately 5 to 12 years old, reported that a flying object had landed on the school grounds.

The children said that they had first seen three objects in the sky. These objects would disappear and then reappear in a different location. The objects moved closer and closer to the ground and finally landed in a bushy area adjacent to the schoolyard. This area had not been fully cleared yet and was off-limits to the students. The object landed, or hovered just above the ground, in an area about 100 meters from the students.

The children said that a small man, about one meter (3 feet) in height, appeared on top of the object. The little man, who was described as having a scrawny neck, long black hair, and huge eyes, walked a short way across the ground toward the students. When he noticed the children, he vanished and then reappeared at the back of the object. The object then took off and vanished.

1973 Methodist Primary School, Jalan Gasing, Petaling Jaya UFO Incident

Dear GA,

I read your BlogSpot with great interests. I have great interests in UFO since I saw the flying saucer landed on top of the tree in our school yard, whilst we were having PE in the year 1973. There was about 30 of us in our class together with our class teacher. Two of my classmates climbed up the tree and tried to captured both the saucer and the tiny creatures but before they could reached to the top they were shot down with high energy laser and both were hospitalized.....

Presently, I'm very interested to get both copies of Encik Ahmad Jamaludin's books i.e. "A Summary of Unidentified Flying Objects & Related Events in Malaysia (1950 to 1980) and "60 Years of Neglected Evidence". You mentioned in your BlogSpot that they were out-of-print...how then may I get them? Pls advise.

Yours-In-UFO,

Vincent

Miniature and micro UFOs and small alien beings in Malaysia

Ever since I was a kid, I have been always fascinated with the paranormal in my country, especially miniature and micro UFO sightings in Malaysia. It could have been an alien toy I got as a birthday gift or seeing Steven Spielberg's 'Close Encounters of the Third Kind' back in 1977 when I was 12 years old. Nothing much happened after that as I was busy with getting a good education and graduating from college. Then came the internet, with so many UFO sites, news and videos; the interest about UFO came back to me again.

Unfortunately, the incidences of UFO sightings are rare in Malaysia for one reason to another. Perhaps the alien beings do not find Malaysia interesting enough for a visit, or they cannot find what they are after in this country, a usual remarks made by local UFO amateur researchers. When we do see them, they are not much different from what's happening in other countries; strange bright lights in the night sky which are not aircraft or helicopters or balloons, disc-shaped like objects making no noise flying in the sky during daytime.

However, there's something different about UFO and alien sightings in Malaysia compared to other parts of the world. According to Mr Ahmad Jamaludin, a UFO researcher living in Malaysia, who wrote a book on UFO sightings called "60 Years of Neglected Evidence: Analysis of Global Humanoid Encounter Reports (1946-2006), there are only about 100 or so sightings of UFO and alien beings in the last 60 years in Malaysia.

However, what is strange is that the UFOs Mr Ahmad had documented in his book for Malaysia are micro UFOs around 6 inches long and small green men around 2-3 inches tall found in the jungles. There were about 4-5 incidences of this kind where the people mostly children saw these micro crafts and the green men while playing around the fields and jungles. When the children attempted to catch them, these micro crafts and alien being fire mini ray guns at these children and ran away. How true this information I have no idea but these cases were in local newspapers and some of the cases were actually verified by adults who accompanied these children's to see the micro crafts and little men.

Conclusion

I believe these are Malaysian UFO crafts and alien beings, unique only to Malaysia. If you have similar stories of miniature UFOs and small alien beings, do contact me.
